120 film isn't as large as i expected too
on the left is 120
on the rite is a roll of 35mm film

how u load the film is a lil diff though
u poke the paper into the takeup spool
then u wind the knob until the arrow matches with the red dot
close the cover
and roll until film counter says "1"
(or if u're using some very old camera, u hv to check from a lil red window)

- mum's minolta is heavier than grandpa's FM2
- minolta's highest shutter speed is only 1/1000s... FM2 is 1/4000s
- this roll looks noiser.... is it minolta / kodak's fault??
- 50mm is NOT a gd focal lengtth for trees  :(

its rather toy like with lots of plastic everywhere
however
it is also one of the earliest (if not the earliest) cameras with built in flash

the silver one is my mum's minolta SRT101b
might test it out later to c if it works well

below r a few comparison shots
the top / left ones r digital
bottom / rite ones r film
plz note that the digital shots r very slightly wider
while the film lens is able to focus closer
another thing is
color differences r sth i can't control too well
they have diff WB settings
the lab technician seem to have tweeked my film colors + exposures
and my scanner isn't scanning the correct colors
i did some slight editing to make them look more like the prints i have

the digital version is more uellowish due to diff WB settings
me like the film shot

film seem to give nicer colors

digital version has a blown out sky
film looks fine

digital looks "golden" but rather boring (too yellowish)
film looks more colorful

digital again seem to look too yellowish
but then it might have been my settings

since it doesn't make too much sense to compare shots that have diff settings
i'll just post a few shots by film

i've decided to use my trusted D80 + its LCD as my light meter
might be a lil bulky + weird
but results r great

while looking through my grandpa's stuff for a flashgun
i accidentally came across this...

nikon 28 2.8 E
the E series were the cheap nikon lens made in late 70's + early 80's
they were cheap becoz of they simply design + construction
and there were quite a bit of plastic
BUT
optically they're great lens
and even though there're some plastic
they still feel a lot better than any of today's newer lens

it's a manual lens so no AF
and no metering on my d80
which means i have to guess exposure
=o=
worry not!
the focus ring feels so great that i've abandoned my much newer 35 1.8
metering isn't that bad a problem too
since i've already taken over 50,000 picz with my d80
my guesses r usually not too far off   :D

i quite like the way it renders the bg
this 28 2.8 on my d80 becomes a very useful 42 2.8
so itz ~normal, with a fast enough aperture + deep enough DOF for most uses

brokeh is not bad too
(cropped from larger pic)

like the blurry bg?

flare control isn't too good though...

i discovered that a convex mirror could kind of correct my fisheye's distortion! :O
i guess if i'm careful enough i could totally remove the distortion haha

here they were dancing with their (empty) dishes

then they threw fake peppers around with major fail
those fake peppers fell all over the floor

day 6: ketchikan
